Zorro was born on our ranch and has never left, but he was originally a Designer Foal whose buyer chose the parents and contracted to have us raise Zorro until he was paid off over time. The buyer failed to complete the contract. Zorro was born a buckskin but rapidly turned black. Like the fox he was named for, Zorro is quick, high-hearted, clever, and fast. He cleared a 5ft fence from a standstill as a yearling so he could gawk at the mares preening in their enclosure. He was easily caught and cooperative, so proud of himself, strutting back to his corral. He matured into a lean, whip smart, dominant stallion, who draws the eye from near and far with his electric energy. At liberty, his gait is a high stepping, dancing batida, almost trotty. From his first time under saddle, he’s given us a beautiful, naturally smooth picada, then transitions into a batida like riding a rocket and finally stretches into a flat out gallop even faster. He loves to run, at liberty or under saddle. He plays with a ball in the arena, chasing it and jumping it, even while ridden. He does alternating flying lead changes across a pasture just because he can. His training is beyond the basics, including riding alone on the trail, but still needs hours under saddle to solidify his comfort riding with mares or in groups with other horses. He approaches people with calm arrogance, deigns to be petted, is readily handled if you keep in mind that he is a breeding stallion. He’s a proven producer of great gait in his children, even his out-crosses. Zorro is for sale as a stallion or gelding. We would sponsor him to a buyer who’ll give him his chance to shine. Or he’ll be the horse thislittle old lady will ride in endurance,…until his daughter, Luna Sombra, comes of age.
